The Real Risks of Owning a Home Based Business

It’s not a new frustration with owning your own business to feel like nothing is working when you are trying to run your own show and grow your business.

It’s DEFINITELY not inclusive only to internet businesses.

So what gives? Why does it feel like you are just wasting you money without ROI (Return On Investment)

Here’s my take on the whole matter.

Most people want a third party investment, meaning, they drop some money into it, wait for a couple years and BOOM! payoff! When you invest in stocks or bonds or whatever, you are investing into OTHER companies and OTHER people’s efforts.

When you jump into a business for yourself from home, your investment is in yourself. Nobody else can CREATE the payout but yourself.

So the risk of getting your ROI is much higher statistically because you are relying on yourself, BUT the chance of making much more profit and a self sustaining business with time freedom (the ultimate currency) is SO MUCH GREATER when you take on the challenge of self investing.

Statistics are one thing, but being human is so much more.

You can control your outcome.

So what is Zeal for life anyway?

Why home business is worth it.. Even though 97% struggle…and…. why do they struggle anyway?

You are a statistic.

I am a statistic.

That is life, we fall into categories.

Now that we have accepted that, let’s move onto to what statistic you probably are.

- If you are a man, you are more likely to have hearing loss than a woman.
- If you are a woman, you are more likely to be better at identifying an odor than a man.
- If you have a son between the age of 2 and 6, he is three times more likely to stutter than your daughter of equal age.

Here is another statistic, a painful one..
- If you are in a home business or are thinking about starting your own business (at home or a traditional “brick and mortar”) you are probably going to spend the next 3 years struggling before you close shop.

So why even go into the venture or even TRY to do anything besides climb the corporate ladder?

Well how many people do you know who have held a job for the last 10-15 years?

Now how many of them are the CEO, President, or any other BullCrap title that makes them feel special being a slave to a different company AND making more than 100K a year?

It’s sad also because if a company is able to afford to pay you that much, how much do you think you are making THEM?

AN AVERAGE OF 4-5 TIMES WHAT AN EMPLOYEE GETS PAID IS ACTUALLY WHAT THEY ARE WORTH TO A COMPANY.

That is a big enough reason to OWN your own business. You keep so much more profit and have a chance to built a team, outsource, capitalize, and have employees where you get to profit from the cash machine, instead of being one of the “gears” of the cash machine.

Truthfully, a 3% chance is more than you’ll ever get working for a company.

And this day and age you have a 0% chance of having a secure job with a secure retirement.

Social Security is becoming a joke and they don’t pay enough to live on anyway.

AND THE BOLDEST STATEMENT YET……

I would say that 97% of people FAIL AT LIFE!

Meaning they never fully dedicate themselves to the constant improvement of their income, demeanor, or even character.

97% of people are on AUTO-PILOT.

So yes, 97% of people who start a business from home fail. I think it’s because 97% of people who start a business from home have no business jumping head first into something when at heart they are just another employee and always will be.

An entrepreneur has a thirst inside and a job will never be the water to quench that thirst.

These are the people in the 3% margin. The long and narrow road.

So be honest with yourself, where is your heart and where are you going?

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT start a business, or join someone in business without having a conversation with someone like more (or another experienced leader you can trust) about what it’s actually going to take for you to be successful. There is usually a lot more “under the hood” of running a business successfully than “Buying in, setting up your website, and sending people to it and let the paychecks come!”

If someone has told you that, they are either lying to you OR (and most likely) they are telling you this because they have been TOLD TO TELL YOU THIS and they don’t know any better.

Companies know that if 100 people look at their business model, 30-40 will try it out. PROFIT.. too bad it’s your paycheck that funds their lifestyle.

The reason you invest in a business is to generate yourself profit. Be sure you find something or SOMEONE who is in it for you to generate profit too.

There, now when you become a 97%-er because you didn’t take my advice you can’t say that nobody ever told you icon smile Why home business is worth it.. Even though 97% struggle...and.... why do they struggle anyway?

6 Steps To Get OUTSTANDING Results In Your Business

Ok, I have a confession. I’m going to come out with it.

This title is deceiving.

It implies 6 DIFFERENT steps to get outstanding results.

There really are only 2 different steps to get outstanding results.

1. Learn a few skills/evaluate your skills

2. Practice your skills in the real marketplace with real people (preferrably potential customers or prospects)

That’s really it folks!!!

The reason I called this the 6 steps is becuase this is how it should look…

1. Learn a few skills/evaluate your skills

2. Practice your skills in the real marketplace with real people (preferrably potential customers or prospects)

3. Learn a few skills/evaluate your skills

4. Practice your skills in the real marketplace with real people (preferrably potential customers or prospects)

5. Learn a few skills/evaluate your skills

6. Practice your skills in the real marketplace with real people (preferrably potential customers or prospects)

BTW, as a side note…. Did you notice that none of these 6 steps included checking your facebook, twitter, or youtube accounts?

The formula you want is 80/20.

Meaning 80% of your time practicing your new skills and 20% of the time evaluating.

So, when you are following this 6 step system, keep this ratio in mind.

I have a stopwatch at my desk and I start it when I began USING my skills for my business. At the 1/2 hour mark, I stop it. I then spend about 5 mins reviewing some notes on a course I have taken or a call that I have listened to. Then, 10 minute break to clear my mind, reabsorb my purpose and goals, then back to work.

I put my audios on my mp3 player so I can listen to my training while I’m driving or alone doing other things when I haven’t scheduled my time to build my business. This ensures that I don’t spend my time that I’m supposed to be building being STUCK in learning mode and not being productive.

The Only Way To Learn How To Ride A Bike

Can you teach someone how to ride a bike?

Think about it, how many ways can you explain how to ride a bike?

MANY!

You could describe to someone how the gears work and even when the bike chain was invented.

Heck you could even draw pretty pictures and let them touch a REAL bike!!

But how many of us, as kids or adults, are able to hop on a bike for the FIRST time and put together all of the wisdom and instantly apply it perfectly and ride away smooth as a professional?

NOBODY!!!

IT DOESN’T WORK LIKE THAT!!

Neither will your business.. You have to “hop on” and just go for it!

You can’t learn by making excuses and complaining that something else isn’t working out right so NOW your business can’t! There are so many things in your life that you cannot control. Your business, however, is NOT ONE OF THEM!

You hold the handle bars!!!!

The fastest way to learn how to ride a bike is to put on protective gear and fall A LOT.. right?

Well mentally, in your business, you need to put on your “protective gear” in the form of a good attitude and the determination to keep on keeping on no matter what… and then…

FALL A LOT!!!

Michael Jordan has made the most game winning shots at the right moments, but he has also missed the most game winning shots at the right moments. Michael Jordan, in his day, “fell off the bike” ALL THE TIME. If you are not falling, you are not learning. Watch this 30 second clip MJ made..

Wisdom Sent From Long Ago

Wisdom From Long Ago I was sitting here reading an article on Benjamin Franklin when I realized that, unintentionally, Benjamin Franklin laid the ground work for the best 13 rules to follow when running your own business. These rules ESPECIALLY apply when you are in the home business arena because you are always dealing with people. I have pasted the article here for you to consider these guidelines that Mr. Ben Franklin applied to his own life and how you could adopt them, in your life and in your business.

Benjamin Franklin 1706 – 1790 (taken from http://www.flamebright.com/PTPages/Benjamin.asp) You probably know him as one of the Fathers of the United States, a great leader and diplomat. He signed the major documents of the founding of the U.S. including the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Maybe you know him as an inventor, or as a scientist who flew kites in lightning storms, or as a writer and printing press operator. But did you know that in 1726, at the age of 20, while on an 80-day ocean voyage from London back to Philadelphia, Benjamin Franklin developed a “Plan” for regulating his future conduct? He was partially motivated by Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” He followed the plan he created “pretty faithfully” even to the age of 79 (when he wrote about it), and he was even more determined to stick with it for his remaining days because of the happiness he had enjoyed so far by following it. His “Plan” was made up of 13 virtues, each with short descriptions: 1. Temperance: Eat not to dullness and drink not to elevation. 2. Silence: Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself. Avoid trifling conversation. 3. Order: Let all your things have their places. Let each part of your business have its time. 4. Resolution: Resolve to perform what you ought. Perform without fail what you resolve. 5. Frugality: Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself: i.e. Waste nothing. 6. Industry: Lose no time. Be always employed in something useful. Cut off all unnecessary actions. 7. Sincerity: Use no hurtful deceit. Think innocently and justly; and, if you speak, speak accordingly. 8. Justice: Wrong none, by doing injuries or omitting the benefits that are your duty. 9. Moderation: Avoid extremes. Forebear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve. 10. Cleanliness: Tolerate no uncleanness in body, clothes or habitation. 11. Chastity: Rarely use venery but for health or offspring; Never to dullness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another’s peace or reputation. 12. Tranquility: Be not disturbed at trifles, or at accidents common or unavoidable. 13. Humility: Imitate Jesus and Socrates. He committed to giving strict attention to one virtue each week so after 13 weeks he moved through all 13. After 13 weeks he would start the process over again so in one year he would complete the course a total of 4 times. He tracked his progress by using a little book of 13 charts. At the top of each chart was one of the virtues. The charts had a column for each day of the week and thirteen rows marked with the first letter of each of the 13 virtues. Every evening he would review the day and put a mark (dot) next to each virtue for each fault committed with respect to that virtue for that day. Naturally, his goal was to live his days and weeks without having to put any marks on his chart. Initially he found himself putting more marks on these pages than he ever imagined, but in time he enjoyed seeing them diminish. After awhile he went through the series only once per year and then only once in several years until finally omitting them entirely. But he always carried the little book with him as a reminder. Benjamin Franklin’s 13 virtues are unique and obviously served him well since he is one of the most respected and most accomplished men in the history of the United States.

You Don’t Have To Be an Expert To Be Successful

 

Yup! It’s true! You don’t have to be an expert to be successful, or rather, to become successful. It is a GREAT idea to start working toward being an expert while you are on your way to success because this will help you not only secure success, but keep it for the long haul. You, as an expert, will be equipped to manage and lead a team of producing people that have the same goal in mind. However, there are some things that you can do and learn about now that will get you on the right road TO success.

Remember, although you don’t have to be an expert at everything to become successful, you REALLY should accept the fact that IN ORDER to become successful (and this applies to any given topic) you ARE going to have to learn over time about your field. You will eventually end with an expertise. The best part about being successful BEFORE you are an expert is that the success will MAKE you the expert, ESPECIALLY in the mind of your business prospects, team, or future customers. The fact that you can stick something out and just learn the handful of skills that it takes to move on the right path in your business alone is enough to give you loads of credibility that all the proper jargon and impressive speech will never be able to give.

Again, you don’t need to be obsessed with becoming and expert or finding the perfect company, product, or system to be successful. You need to find a leader or a person that you can trust who won’t feed you HYPE or BS, and take on the business plan or approach that will put you on that path. Look, you can’t really do anything on your own. Nobody ever has. Neil Armstrong didn’t get to the moon on his own merit. His name may be the one in the history books, but it wasn’t all him. He worked not only with the largest space exploration team in the world, but also on the compounded work and training of scientific advancement of the centuries before him.

The same is going to go for your business and the sooner you can admit that and drop the ego, the sooner it’s going to happen for you. Success doesn’t happen on its own. Duh, right? It’s not like you didn’t know that. BUT, do you REALLY know your next step? Do you REALLY have a clue what the “path of success” means for you? I’m guessing you don’t and it’s not your fault. It’s simply just not something we are taught and if it was, who is going to teach us? We each have our own baggage, skills, and lack thereof that we need to conquer and you JUST are not going to get there on your own merit. You need to compile who you are and what you have with a team that is your counterpart. It’s the only answer.

Request my book to get SPECIFIC training on what to look for in a business, how to surround yourself with the people that will do for you what scientists did for Neil Armstrong, how to attract endless people to you who either want to BUY from you OR join you and your common goal, and to either join a team going in the direction you want to go OR motivate your team to all “pull together” in the direction you want them to. The best leaders get other people to do what they want them to do, and gets them to do it because they want to. You CAN be that leader.
